In this article, we share a few tips that will help you quickly refresh your bedding. These tips will help you prolong the life of your mattress, duvet, and pillows, they’ll also help you to naturally disinfect it and prevent mold. Take a look at our list and keep your bedroom fresh:
After you wake up in the morning, remove sheets, mattress protector and topper. Hang the protector, topper, duvet and pillow over chairs and sofas, flip the mattress to the side, open all the windows in your room and leave it for a few hours. This will help the air circulate around your bedding, keeping it dry and refreshed. You can also leave a fan on to enhance the air circulation. On a sunny day, you can leave all these items outside in the sun for a few hours. This practice will help to fluff up the fibers in your bedding and prevent the build-up of dust and bacteria.
Remove sheets from your mattress and vacuum it using upholstery attachment and crevice tool to thoroughly remove dust and dirt from all sides of the mattress as well as the seems where dirt tends to accumulate. If you’re using a mattress topper, make sure you also vacuum it thoroughly. To keep your mattress clean and fresh, vacuum it at least once a month.
Place your cotton and woolen pillows, duvets, and toppers in a dryer using air only mode with 15-20 minutes intervals. You can add a few drops of lavender essential oil other essential oil you like to give your bedding new, natural scent that will last for weeks to come.
If you don’t have a dryer and wish to deodorize and refresh your mattress quickly and naturally, use a mixture of baking soda and your favorite essential oil. Mix a cup of baking soda with 15-20 drops of your favorite essential oil (one of the best choices is lavender oil as it’s naturally antibacterial and antifungal). Next, sift the mixture all over the top of your mattress with a kitchen sifter. Leave the mixture on your mattress for at least an hour (you can also leave it for the whole day) and then, vacuum it all up with your vacuum cleaner. You’ll notice the difference straight away!
